something we can never know

about

In 1970, American poet, black poet, Gil Scott-Heron recorded a poem-song, "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" Scott-Heron rapped or talked over bongos etc. A great piece of work, in the middle of the Vietnam 'conflict'...this song is inspired by that work.

lyrics

There was a revolution in the streets below
We saw it on TV.
She said. 'isn't anybody out there, anymore?' Then,
'what's this whole world coming to?'
'Or, do you think, it's something we can never know?
Should we just sit back and watch the river flow? Never
question the meaning of existence.
Because it's something we can never know?'
Or do you think
It's something we can never know.
Qualities of life don't get analysed on TV
and the best things are impossible to find.
